David Mackay on Bonnie Tyler’s new single “Let’s Go Crazy Tonight”
Bonnie Tyler is releasing her new live album In Berlin on Friday April 19. earMUSIC announced “Let’s Go Crazy Tonight” as the second single, following her classic 80s tune “Faster Than the Speed of Night” last month. The track featured on Bonnie’s 2019 album Between the Earth and the Stars, and it appeared in the set list for Bonnie’s European tour.
It feels especially appropriate for Bonnie to release a song with the lyric “While the moon is just right” in a week where North America has seen a total solar eclipse.
Upon release, Bonnie described it as a “good times song about getting together with old friends and partying like crazy”. She said she loved it on first listen, adding, “It has that classic rock sound, and it was one of my favourites to sing on the Between the Earth and the Stars Live Tour”.
We spoke with Bonnie’s producer, David Mackay, about where he found the track:
“Let’s Go Crazy Tonight” was written by a bunch of writers who I have worked with over many years.
One of the writers, Richard Klender, until last year opened a very small exclusive vineyard in California. He and Bob Huff would get together and taste the latest wines and then grab the guitars and pretend to be totally sober and write songs. Ted would join in and then they would call me at all hours ignoring the time change between the USA and UK and say, “hey listen to this”.
All I can tell you is they have far too much fun. Klender Cellars have won numerous awards. Richard finally decided to move to Arizona closer to the other lads, so now the writing sessions are more numerous, and I’m hoping for more songs like “Let’s Go Crazy Tonight”.
