Bonnie Tyler to receive an MBE

In recognition for her services to music, Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler is to receive an MBE in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

She said:

I am truly honoured to be awarded an MBE and especially so in Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, which makes this even more special. This honour just goes to show that anyone from any background can become a success, and be recognised by our wonderful country, if they put their minds and efforts into what they do.

I hope that my honour may in some small way motivate others to give their best, you really never know what wonderful things may come to you if you do. I’m just a girl from a small town in Wales who just loves to sing, so to be recognised for that in this way is very significant to me and my family and friends.

To mark the start of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations this weekend, Bonnie will be lighting the beacon at Oystermouth Castle for a televised event on BBC One starting tonight at 8pm. It will include link-ups to events all around the United Kingdom and various Commonwealth countries. On Saturday, Bonnie will perform as one of the headline acts at the Jubilee concert held at Cardiff Castle.

We’d like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Gaynor Sullivan MBE for this fantastic news.
