Bonnie to Feature on New Live Album by Desmond Child

Following the premiere of the Desmond Child Rocks the Parthenon documentary earlier this year, the legendary singer-songwriter has now confirmed the release of an audio version of the entire concert. Desmond Child Rocks the Parthenon: The Live Concert Album is due for release later this month on 24 July.

Bonnie first worked with Desmond Child on her 1986 album Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire, when he contributed two songs: “Lovers Again” and the cult hit “If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)”. The pair then set to work on her 1988 album Hide Your Heart, which Desmond produced for Bonnie at the historic Bearsville Studios in New York.

They then parted ways musically but kept in touch. Speaking about those unforgettable recording sessions, Desmond reflected on his deep admiration for Bonnie:

Bonnie and Desmond reunited in 2011 when he gave her two new songs for her album Rocks and Honey, which she recorded in Nashville with producer David Huff. “Stubborn” was co-written by Desmond with Peter Månsson and Keeley Hawkes, and the other, “Believe in Me”, was written with Lauren Christy and Chris Braide, and chosen as the UK’s Eurovision entry in 2013.

For her 2021 album, The Best Is Yet to Come, Desmond once again contributed a brand new song. He wrote “Stronger Than a Man” alongside Ruslan Odnoralov and Shelly Peiken – a track first performed live by Deborah Cox on the PBS television show The Kate in 2019.

In June 2022, Bonnie was invited to perform at Desmond Child Rocks the Parthenon, a massive live benefit concert held at the historic Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, Greece. The event was organized to advocate for the return of the Parthenon Sculptures from the British Museum to their place of origin. The star-studded lineup included many iconic artists who have enjoyed major success performing Desmond Child’s hits, including Alice Cooper, The Rasmus, Kip Winger, and Rita Wilson.

Bonnie’s stunning performance included three standout tracks. She opened with the much-loved “If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)”, marking her first full live performance of the song since 2006. This led into an intimate, emotional rendition of “Stronger Than a Man”, backed beautifully by Desmond Child himself on the piano, before closing her solo set with a full-band performance of “Hide Your Heart”. To cap off the spectacular evening, Bonnie returned to the stage alongside the night’s other guest artists for a massive ensemble encore of the Bon Jovi classic, “Livin’ on a Prayer”.
